The Most Dangerous Walk to School

For most parents the school-run may seem death-defying, but it usually only consists of a quick drive or walk to the gates.

So spare a thought for the families of Gulucan village in West China, who take their lives in their hands every day with a a school walk which involves navigating a narrow path carved into a 5,000-ft cliff-side.

It is the only way they can get to the school, which with its five concrete rooms is the known as the best construction in the village.

Bottle Temple in Thailand

Wat Pa Maha Kaew Temple is the only temple in the world build out of glass bottles and bottle caps. It all began in 1984 when the Buddhist monks started gathering bottles to decorate their shelters. The lovely bottle art-work they created attracted more and more visitors that began donating bottles, until there were enough to build an entire building.

Thai monks have used over one million recycled glass bottle to construct their Buddhist temple and its located in Siasaket province, about 370 miles northeast of Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok. There are approximately 1.5 millionglass bottles incorporated in the temple complex, that includes glass shelters, crematorium and even glass toilets.

The bottles make for a surprisingly easy to maintain building material, they let the light in and they don’t fade. The monks are still collecting glass bottles to build even more structures at Wat Pa Maha Kaew.

The World's Fattest Man Got Married

Manuel Uribe, who hasn't left his bed in six years, married his longtime girlfriend Claudia Solis on Sunday in northern Mexico.

Wearing a white silk shirt with a sheet wrapped around his legs, Mr Uribe smiled as Miss Solis, 38, walked down a flight of stairs wearing a strapless ivory dress, a tiara and hot-pink lipstick.

He later broke into tears as a notary declared the couple husband and wife in a civil ceremony attended by more than 400 guests. For the traditional first dance as newlyweds, the couple held hands and swayed to a romantic ballad.

In 2006, Mr Uribe weighed 87st 12lbs (560kg), earning him the Guinness World Record as the world's heaviest man.

He has since shed about 550lbs (250kg) with the help of Miss Solis, who he met four years ago. He now weighs about 48st and said he is now aiming for a new title of world's greatest weight loser.

Swimming with Tigers

Tigers are known as the best swimmers of all the big cats with modified webbing between their toes to make their feet more like flippers. But The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species, or Tigers, near Miami, claims to have overcome the problem by encouraging both tigers and humans to swim together in a specially adapted pool. Traditionally, trainers have struggled to build an attachment with the largest of the big cats. Despite the apparent danger, the trainers are never at risk. They've found that in the water people and tigers are on a more equal footing. The hand-reared tigers are introduced to the water a few months after birth and the trainers then give one-on-one tuition to each of the animals while they are in the water.
